Blind and Low Vision Scholarships and Grants Application

Amount: Maximum of up to $1,500/Applicant

For individuals who are pursuing post-secondary training in any field Relating to Serving Children and Youth who are Blind and have low vision (Renewable). Applicant must be a resident of Atlantic Canada and may be required to work in Atlantic Canada provided employment opportunities are available.

Supporting documents required:

• Evidence of acceptance into a post-secondary program
  Current transcript
• Three letters of reference (character, academic and one other)

Interested individuals must complete the attached application form with supporting documents. Applications may be submitted anytime throughout the year.

Amount: Maximum of $2000/applicant/fiscal year

Funding options are available to support recreational, social, or cultural opportunities such as, and not limited to, summer camp grants, summer support grants, student exchanges, job coaching, student conferences/seminars/meetings, and sports for children and youth who are blind and have low vision and one
family member (where applicable).

Funding is provided when there is evidence that funds are unavailable from any other source and are cost shared at 50%, where possible, by the individual. In exceptional circumstances, 100% funding may be considered. Applications must be received a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to the activity.

Amount: Maximum of $3,000/applicant/fiscal year

Financial support for children and youth under 21 years of age who are blind and have low vision and one family member to participate in any APSEA cross provincial APSEA gathering. Recipients must live in one of the Atlantic Provinces. Applications must be received a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to the activity.

Amount: Variable based on application

A maximum of up to $10,000 to support research opportunities within Atlantic Canada may be awarded annually. Research must be of direct benefit to children and youth who are blind and have low vision.

Additional Requirements:

• Provision of a research description/statement. Give a clear and concise description of the research problem, purpose, or question. The researcher should denote exactly what they intend to do and what they want to achieve with the research and how it will benefit APSEA.
• Timeline, estimated cost, other sources of funding explored and/or received.

Amount: Variable based on application

A maximum of up to $10,000 will be available for professional learning and training to ensure APSEA continues to meet its needs for specialized staff to meet the needs of children and youth who are blind and have low vision, who are supported by APSEA.

Additional requirements:

• A candidate must have the appropriate educational and experiential background to benefit from the professional learning opportunity.
• A candidate must hold a position and possess the willingness and personal skills which permit utilization of new knowledge and skills in the professional learning and training of other staff.
• Priority will be given to requests for professional learning opportunities that are consistent with the program needs of students who are blind or have low vision as identified by the Director and senior administrators.
